Tribute to a lifesaving hero

Campaigning journalist, Adrian Subdury sadly lost his battle with leukaemia but his legacy has gone on to inspire thousands of people to join the bone marrow register.

Adrian spent the last weeks of his life campaigning to make education on bone marrow, blood and organs complusory for 17 and 18-year-olds in all UK sixth form colleges.

Adrian’s campaign won worldwide acclaim.

Adrian Sudbury's crusade brought him personal phone calls from Gordon Brown, a mention during Prime Minister's question time, support from prominent figures including Prince Charles, and an overall lasting legacy that will continue to inspire action for years to come.

A special Anthony Nolan Trust clinic was held in the House of Commons, organised by MP Kali Mountford.

Key cabinet ministers joined the register, including Secretary of State for Work and Pensions James Purnell and Andrew Burnham, Secretary of State for Culture.

Adrian delivered a petition of 11,000 signatures to Downing Street, inspiring the prime minister Gordon Brown to write to celebrities to raise awareness of the campaign.
